Devastation in Elbow Cay left by Hurricane Dorian

We’ve had many people ask us for reputable ways they can help those affected by Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas.

Our President, Mark Bailey, Sr., has close ties to those on Elbow Cay (located just a few miles east of Marsh Harbour) and the surrounding cays and from what we’ve heard they’ve all seen complete and total devastation. The video below shows what Elbow Cay looked like just days after the eye wall of Dorian made landfall over the islands.

Mark Sr. spent much of the past week vetting out organizations promising to help those affected and is confident in Hope Town Rising’s ability to help the people there recover and rebuild.

As we share this, Hope Town Rising has a barge on its way to the Bahamas filled with supplies to help the medical personnel (some affiliated with Flagler Hospital) currently on the ground there. Additionally, Solar Stik — a St. Augustine based company — is working closely with Hope Town Rising to provide alternative power sources for the residents and relief workers.

At this time, Hope Town Rising is asking for monetary donations as physical donations of supplies are currently overwhelming those heading up the relief efforts on the ground. There is a link to donate on their site and will also accept contributions by check.

We’ll continue to keep you up-to-date on the progress being made to help the people of the Bahamas recover from this unthinkable disaster.

9/16/19 Update

Mark Bailey, Sr. had the opportunity to visit Elbow Cay on Monday with Jim Gray and Keith Faver from FaverGray. The devastation is even harder to comprehend seeing it first hand. The most urgent need is the rebuild of the Hope Town clinic. This video shows a makeshift clinic that has been established with the support of the leadership of Flagler Hospital and their amazing volunteers; It’s being seen as the model for all of the Abaco Islands. We will never know how to express our gratitude to Rachael, Michelle, Tim, Wendy, Jeff, Steve, and Matt. Their care has allowed the island to begin a new chapter with a positive outlook even in the midst of apocalyptic devastation. They have saved many lives and their impact is immeasurable.
